Momentary Runaway Bride
Holly & Michael Hancock
3rd March 2022
When our beautiful bride Holly was about to take her first step towards her hubby-to-be Michael, her veil had other plans - it somehow got stuck in a nearby bush and she missed her queue to walk down the aisle! The guests spent a few minutes nervously assuming she had become a real-life runaway bride as the music continued to play and Holly was a no-show. When she was finally untangled and the doors swung open, everyone breathed a sigh of relief…and they got the party started!
Get to know our lovely Bride Holly as she
gives us a peek behind the scenes of her big day.
How did you and Michael meet?
We met at work. We had a crush on each other for a while and we happened to be in the lunchroom at the same time quite a lot (he made sure he came in whenever I was in there)...then I finally added him on Facebook and the rest is history.
How did Michael propose?
He told me we were going on a work cruise but we were meeting everyone at the Botanic Gardens first. When we arrived there was a beautiful professional picnic set up in the middle of the Botanic Gardens which he said was for our anniversary. 45 mins later, after we enjoyed champagne and nibbles. he popped the question after giving me an ‘anniversary present’ which was a box of Favourites with the ring inside.
Where did you start your wedding planning journey?
We researched wedding venues before anything else and planned everything around that.
What was your vision when planning your big day?
We wanted a big party with not too many formalities.
Did you have any must-haves or non-negotiables?
Champagne pre ceremony, flip flops provided at the reception, and a live band from start to finish.
How many wedding dresses did you try before you found ‘the one’?
About 8
Looking back on the day, was there anything you wish you did or didn’t do?
I wish I took the pressure off it being a ‘perfect day’. I was very anxious leading up to the day and the morning of and I wasn’t able to relax properly until the reception!
What advice would you give to couples currently planning their big day?
Get the speeches done as early as possible so the people doing the speeches can relax and enjoy themselves the rest of the night.
Who was a stand-out vendor?
Our florist/stylist - Peonies Boutique Weddings
What made you decide to turn your wedding photos into a custom painting by Adrienne?
I was gifted a voucher from my best friend to get a custom painting.
Adrienne was wonderful to work with. She was very communicative, efficient, and just so talented. I could not be happier to have this piece in our home forever.
Where do you keep your illustration?
In our living room. I love looking at it every day - it reminds me of our wonderful day. Every time someone new comes over to our house, they comment on how beautiful it is.
A Note From The Artist:
Hearing Holly’s ceremony story didn’t shock me one bit, as the most memorable feature that makes it easy for me to recall her artwork, was the stunning long veil she wore. When I received Holly & Michael’s wedding photos, I knew instantly we had to create a landscape artwork for the couple, Holly’s long veil and beautifully detailed train were such a statement that I was not going to miss making sure this was a feature of the piece.
Landscape wedding paintings are a less common option for my couples, they are incredibly stunning but I only recommend landscape when we are working with a long train or veil that typically does not fit into a portrait-style painting, so in Holly’s case, it was the perfect fit!
